1

Step One

Draw or print off some egg templates in the size you prefer (our egg is approx 3 1/2 x 5cm's) Use one of the templates to draw your design and another to use as a pattern to cut out the egg in backing foundation and another in suedette. Draw all or part of your design on the backing foundation to use as a guide.

2

Step Two

Bead Embroidery Techniques:- Using a managable length of thread, thread the needle and knot the end of the thread. Sew through the backing foundation approx 1mm from the edge from back to front. (We are using bigger beads and black thread for the purpose of photography)

3

Step Three

Seed Bead back stitch:- Pick up 3 size 11/0 seed beads and lay them on the foundation, postition in place on your design, sew through the foundation from front to back after the last bead on the thread. (We are alternating 4 colours of beads in a chevron pattern)

4

Step Four

Bring the needle back through from the back to front between the first and second bead and pull the thread though, then pass the needle through the second and the third beads and pull the thread taught.

5

Step Five

Pick up another three beads and lay them on the foundation bringing the needle through the foundation past the last bead of the previous set (for a tighter stitch you pick up only one or two beads at a time)

6

Step Six

Continue adding beads as in steps 3,4 and 5 until you reach the end of the run. To create the point of the chevron add one bead pass the line, bring the needle from back to front of the foundation in between the last four beads and then pass the needle through the beads.

7

Step Seven

Take the needle down through the foundation and back up to start the next run. Using the bead embroidery method explained in steps 3,4 and 5 to create your design.

8

Step Eight

Sew the brooch pin to the suedette backing fabric then match it up to the back of the egg, A little glue can be used to hold the suedette to backing foundation.

9

Step Nine

Beading Edging Blanket Stitch;- Use a border of beaded blanket stitch all around the edge of the egg as follows;- Secure the thread on the back of the egg, add an 11/0 bead, approx 1mm from the edge bring the needle through from the back to the front then pass the needle back through the bead pulling the thread taught. The bead should sit on the edge of the work.

10

Step Ten

Pick up another 11/0 bead, leaving enough space for the bead to sit bring the needle from the the back to the front 1mm from the edge of the egg pull the thread through and pass the needle back up through the bead. Repeat this step all the way around the work until the first bead is met.

11

Step Eleven

Pass the thread through the first and last beads to join the beads together. Then pass the needle through to the back of the egg to cast off. Add a bow to the egg brooch to complete the look.
