As we come to the end of October, it’s only right to focus on the beautiful birthstone associated with this month. This week’s hints and tips tutorial will teach you how to make a beautiful Opal bracelet. Opal is such a precious gemstone! The internal structure diffracts light meaning it can display a variety of stunning iridescent colours. There are many different types of the Opal gemstone including: black, fire, white, crystal and dark to name a few. This bracelet is made using two strands of graduated Opal. The shades may vary, but that’s what makes this gemstone so beautiful and unique. To complete the bracelet, rose gold spacer beads and findings have been used to bring out the warm tones of the Opal. Step One

Cut a 35cm length of beading thread. Thread on a crimp bead and the round of the toggle clasp, pass back through the crimp bead, pull to form a small loop and crimp. Trim the excess thread and add a crimp cover.

Step Two

Using the center 16cm of opal, divide in half. Take 1 half and starting with the smallest rondelles thread them onto the beading thread, leave the last 5.

Step Three

Thread on a small rose gold spacer bead, the last 5 opal rondelles then the large filigree spacer bead.

Step Four

Take the 2nd half of the opals, going from large to small thread on the 5 largest opal rondelles, then a small rose gold spacer bead. Then thread on the rest of the opals.
