Hey Tracey, can you tell us a little bit about you and your history in jewellery making?

I trained in fashion design and textiles. Later I took my teacher training qualifications and began to teach for the local authority and colleges, initially in all sorts of arts and craft areas. Jewellery making came along later by accident.

What’s your speciality when it comes to jewellery making?

Silver Clay is my passion. It’s so versatile, and I love pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved. It’s so easy for a beginner to pick up the basics.

How long have you been in the jewellery industry?

I’ve been making jewellery for around 15 years.

Do you have a day job?

My day job is anything to do with designing, teaching and writing about silver clay. It is a full-time job and I love it. I also own my own Jewellery school @CraftWorxUK where I’m the director and principal artist. Not only do I teach there but I also teach across the UK and internationally. In addition, I write project tutorials for UK and International magazines.

Tell us about your favourite moment on JewelleryMaker?

My most memorable moment on JewelleryMaker is the first show I ever did. I was so scared, even petrified, but so reassured that everything was going to be Ok by the in-house team.

What first piqued your interest in jewellery making?

I never imagined jewellery making in my career plan. Working for a college, one day they asked me to start teaching jewellery making. So, after some intense training courses, I made that move into jewellery making.

What is your favourite piece of jewellery in your personal collection?

Oh that’s a tough one, I love making boxes and lockets, things that hide a secret. So, this ‘Hexactly Locket’ is one of my favourites.

What is your favourite piece of jewellery you’ve ever made?

This is one of my more recent pieces too. I called it ‘The Surreal Dream’. It’s a brooch but depicts the feeling I had at the start of the pandemic, one of fear and uncertainty

What do you enjoy the most about being on JM?

The crew and presenters are always so uplifting, kind, funny and it’s great to be a part of that team.

If you were an animal, which would you be and why?

A cat. I love cats, especially one that has a very loving owner.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in jewellery making?

Take a lesson in your chosen medium. It will save you a ton of mistakes and school boy errors and ultimately save you money.

Finally, where can we follow your future adventures?
