Tahitian Pearls also known as Peacock Pearls are an organic gem formed from the black lip Oyster. Traditionally the most sought after Tahitian pearls will have a dark green body with iridescent, Peacock overtones. For this step by step tutorial you will be using 3 beautiful strands of this stunning gemstone. The base of the necklace will be made by crocheting monofilament and Zari thread to create a graduated, ombre necklace with incorporated drop Pearls throughout. The addition of the Peacock Pearls transforms this piece into a glamorous Summer necklace, essential for everybody’s jewellery collection. Step One

Using a reel of monofilament thread on the peacock pearls straight onto the reel (anything from 9 to 15 pearls will be used for each strand of graduated crochet chains)

Step Two

Line the Zari thread up with the monofilament and wrap both threads around your finger, pass the hook under both threads.

Step Three

With the hook through the loop grab both threads (Zari thread and monofilament) and bring them back through the loop around your finger

Step Four

Holding the ends of the threads slide the loop off your finger keeping the loop around the hook and pull all the threads so that the loop around the hook tightens

Step Five

Position the monofilament and Zari threads so that you can pull them through the loop on the hook creating a crochet chain. Chain approx 9cm's (always crocheting with both threads)

Step Six

Drop a pearl down the monofilament to the chain and holding the pearl in place repeat step 5 creating the chain around the pearl, then chain 7

Step Seven

Repeat the crochet chain with one pearl then 7 chain until you have a length of approx 32cm's of chain from the beginning then chain with the thread only for another 9cm's making a total chain of approx 41cm's. Cut the threads leaving a length of approx 10cm's and pull them tight through the last chain loop. This will be the shortest length of chain for your necklace, create multiple graduating longer lengths following steps 5 and 6, we have used a total of 15 lengths of crochet chains for the necklace

Step Eight

Line up all the lengths of chains on one end together and carefully position in place inside a ribbon end. Using flat nose pliers fold the sides down capturing all the ends inside

Step Nine

Repeat step 8 with all the ends on the other side carefully lining up the chains and securing in the other side of the ribbon end. Carefully trim away the excess threads

Step Ten

Add a peacock pearl to a headpin and create a loop, attach to the end of the extender chain to finish the necklace
