How to create a Classic Pearl Knotted Necklace

You Will Need:

Step One A

Completely unwind the #6 cord from its card, tie a double knot at the end and then using the needle end thread on two 14mm Shell Pearls. (To make threading easier, you may want to ream all of the Shell Pearls before you start).

Step One B

Thread on a crimp bead, 1cm of French Wire and one half of your clasp, then feed the thread back through the crimp bead and gently pull so the French wire creates a loop.

Step Two

Secure with crimping pliers and hide the crimp with a crimp cover, then pass the needle back through the first pearl and tie a knot between the two pearls.

Step Three

Pass the needle through the second Pearl, then using scissors, cut away the original double knot at the end of the cord being careful not to cut through the new thread.

Step Four

Tie a knot in the thread and place the tip of a knotting awl (or a pin) into the loop.

Step Five

Slide the knot towards the pearl so that it sits as close as possible.

Step Six

Remove the awl and use your fingernails to push the knot even closer still.

Step Seven

Thread on another pearl and repeat steps 4-6, continue knotting the pearls until you almost reach your desired length of necklace leaving two remaining pearls.

Step Eight

Thread on the last two pearls without knotting between them. As per Step 1B Add a crimp bead, 1cm of French Wire and the other half of clasp, feed the needle back through the crimp and pull it until the French wire goes into a loop, secure it with crimping pliers and hide crimp with a crimp cover.

Step Nine

Feed the needle back through the last pearl and tie a knot between the last two pearls.

Step Ten

You can add a dab of glue to the end knots for extra security and trim away the excess thread.

Step Eleven

Connect the clasp to complete your classic pearl knotted necklace.
