Learn how to make wirework flower earrings.

Spring is swiftly approaching, and we can’t wait for pretty, pastel colours and florals to take over! As we come to the end of the Winter to Spring transition, any and everything floral inspired goes! Learn how to make simplistic, wirework flower earrings by following this easy tutorial. All you will need is 0.8mm wire, a pair of shepherd hooks and flat and round nose pliers! You can experiment with a variety of coloured wires to create your own desired look however this tutorial uses rose and yellow gold. A nice alterative would be to try a bold coloured wire to create a vivid statement! Step One

Straighten and cut approx 25cms length of 0.8mm wire, with chain nose pliers grip approx 6cms from one end and make a sharp bend, pinch the bend together with flat nose pliers this will be the first point of the inside of the flower.

Step Two

Place pliers approx 1cm in from the first bend and make another sharp bend pinching it tight with flat nose pliers

Step Three

Repeat bending 1cm sections until you have 4 bends at the top and 5 bends and the bottom with two 6cm lengths each side as shown as shown (The bottom points will be the inside of the flower and the two 6mm lengths will form the 5th petal and loop) if you are making earrings make both at the same time so you can make them the same size

Step Four

Gently pull apart the bends and using round nose pliers widen out the tips of the bends slightly

Step Five

Starting on a edge 6mm length make a slight curve at the centre of each petal about half way with flat nose pliers creating the leaves, position the centre of the flower as you go and push the petals together

Step Six

Bring the two tails together to form the 5th petal. Where the ends cross bend one wire straight up and the other to a right angle passing across the wire pointing up, keep checking as you shape the wire making sure the last petal is about the same size as the others.

Step Seven

Hold the wires securely carefully wrap the right-angle wire and make a wrapped loop around the upwards wire. Wrap around twice and use pliers to tighten the wrap. Cut away the excess wire with flush cutters and use flat nose pliers to push in any sharp edges

Step Eight

Place the tip of the round nose pliers on the wire just above the wraps and bend the straight wire to a right angle

Step Nine

Reposition the round nose pliers so the wire is passing through both prongs and push the wire over the top prong creating a loop

Step Ten

Carefully trim the excess wire from the loop and add the flowers to shepherd hooks. The flowers can be gently tapped with a hammer and block to give the petals a flattened effect
